Now that the season is over, were taking a look at how Atlantas running backs performed in 2025 and what the offseason could hold for the unit.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson had a historic season in 2025.

Robinson brokethe Falcons single-season recordfor yards from scrimmage with 2,298. That total led all NFL players this season and ranked 12th in league history.

The 23-year-old is only the third Falcons player to lead the NFL in yards from scrimmage. The only two others to do so were running back William Andrews in 1981 and wide receiver Julio Jones in 2015.

Robinson's performance this season led to his second consecutivePro Bowl nominationand hisfirst-ever All-Pro recognitionfrom The Associated Press.

He wasn't the only running back to carry the rock successfully in 2025, though. Tyler Allgeier led all Falcons players with eight rushing touchdowns, whereas Robinson finished with seven scores on the ground.

Learn more below about how the Falcons' running backs performed in 2025 and the position group's outlook for 2026.

2025 production:

Players under contract for 2026:

  • Bijan Robinson
  • Nathan Carter
  • Carlos Washington Jr. (future/reserve)

2026 Free agents:

  • Tyler Allgeier

Biggest question facing the position group in 2026:

Will the Falcons find a way to keep Allgeier?

Atlanta drafted Allgeier in 2022 with a fifth-round pick. He was easily the Falcons' leading rusher that season with 210 carries for 1,035 yards, which set the franchise record formost rushing yards by a rookie. However, he hasn't exactly come close to those totals since then.

In 2023, the Falcons drafted running back Bijan Robinson with a first-round pick, and he quickly became Atlanta's No. 1 rusher. Allgeier became the secondary, albeit more physical, option in a 1-2 punch ground attack.

Now, entering 2026, Allgeier is set to become a free agent. He was asked after the Falcons'Week 18 win against the New Orleans Saintswhether he wants to be back in Atlanta.

"We'll see," Allgeier said. "I don't know. That's (up to) the front office, I guess. It's my first time being a free agent, so it should be very interesting what happens."

Very interesting indeed, especially if another team comes around with an opportunity for Allgeier to claim the top spot on a depth chart.

"I always had my eyes on being the starter," he said. "Obviously, when we had B come in, that kind of diminished it. But I think I always had the mindset of being a starter. ... We've trained ourselves to be a starter, so that's the goal, but who knows? We'll see if we put enough film (together) to be able to say that."
