With Matt Ryan in place as president of football, the Falcons are searching for their new head coach.

The Atlanta Falcons are in search of the organization's 20th head coach in franchise history. The organization parted ways with Raheem Morris after the team's final game of the 2025 season. A new-look leadership groupincluding Falcons President of Football Matt Ryanbegan the hunt to find his successor with the assistance of ZRG Partners and Sportsology Group.
"Our search committee will be structured a little bit differently than it has been in the past,"Falcons owner Arthur Blank said Thursday. "[It will] still be made up of a component of people that represent our leadership in all areas of our businesses, but we're going to put heavy emphasis, we're hiring this president of football first. That's the goal, and over the next couple of days, we have a series of interviews set up. We want to get that person in their seat and have them lead the interviews for the head coach and general manager position going forward."
The Falcons will announce these interviews after they are completed with each candidate. We'll provide those updates here, along with relevant information and background about each candidate.
The NFL has specific rules for how and when teams can conduct these interviews. They are outlined here.
The Falcons have officially completed an interview with Klint Kubiak for their head coach position.
Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak
Current role:Kubiak is the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks.
Resume highlights:
- Since joining the league's coaching ranks in 2015, Kubiak has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings (quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator), Denver Broncos (passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach), San Francisco (passing game coordinator) and New Orleans Saints (offensive coordinator).
- He leads one of the hottest offenses in football at the current moment, the Seahawks a team that most recently clinched a tough NFC West title and No. 1 seed in the conference going into the postseason. It was the franchise's first division title since 2020 and the first appearance as the top seed since 2014. The team's 14 wins this season set a new franchise record.
- Offensively, the Seahawks unit finished the regular season third in scoring and tied for seventh in total yardage.
Local connection:Kubiak overlapped with Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins in Minnesota from 2019-21. If Cousins remains in Atlantathe Falcons reportedly restructured his contract last weekthere would be familiarity there.
Why he's a candidate:Kubiak comes with more than a decade of offensive coaching experience in the NFL, which could be just what the Falcons need with a unit full of young and experienced talent. Atlanta has what ownerArthur Blank believes is a franchise quarterbackin Michael Penix Jr., who the Falcons drafted in the first round of 2024. Star running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London are still on their rookie contracts. Everyone but Elijah Wilkinson is set to return from the starting offensive line, and former starter Kaleb McGary will presumably be back from his injury in 2026 anyway. The Falcons could also use their franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts Sr.
So, there are a lot of pieces Kubiak could help better mesh. He proved with the Seahawks he can quickly escalate an offense's production. Seattle went from 14th in total yards and 18th in points scored in 2024 to eighth and third, respectively, in 2025. Basically, Kubiak turned an OK unit into a great unit. For reference, the Falcons were 14th in total yards and 24th in points scored this season.
Kubiak recently stems from the Shanahan coaching tree that's known to produce thriving offenses, working under Kyle Shanahan's leadership in 2023 with the 49ers. Kubiak was a part of the offensive staff that helped running back Christian McCaffrey total a league-high 1,459 rushing yards and 2,2023 yards from scrimmage en route to a Super Bowl appearance. That bodes well for the Falcons, who have a very similar workhorse in Robinson. At the same time, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for the fifth-most yards in the NFL with 4,280, which could be a goal for Penix.
