Falcons Mailbag: Tyler Allgeier's value amongst Bijan Robinson's rise

Tori McElhaney answers your questions.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Over on AtlantaFalcons.com we had 12-plus stories published over a 48 hour time period from the time the Falcons beat the Bills to where we are now. None of those were a mailbag. To that, I apologize!

I promise to make up for it with a not-so-little project that will drop Thursday at 6 p.m. ET on all of our team channels. It's taken up quite a bit of my time and energy this week. So, be on the lookout for that.

In the meantime, let's get to your questions.

Sam W. from Duluth, Georgia

I saw A.J. Terrell's PFF grade from Monday night was pretty low. Is he not 100% from the hamstring injury?

PFF grades have to be taken with a grain of salt. Even when they are good and let's be real, Terrell was a PFF darling in 2021 they are not the end-all-be-all. Nor do I think they really depict the whole picture. For example,Next Gen Stats (a data base I find more reliable) noted just this Tuesdaythat Terrell is only allowing an average of 1.2 yards of separation when targeted this season. It's the least seperation allowed by any defensive back who's been thrown to atleast five times. Terrell has allowed just seven catches on 71 yards via 13 targets. Not too shabby despite what PFF says.

I will lead you with this, too: Terrell's coordinator isn't all too concerned with the play of his cornerbacks, and his safeties.

"We do have a ton of confidence in the back end," Jeff Ulbrich said. "The safety group we have, I challenge anyone to say they have better. And the best corner group in my opinion, too."

And to answer your question: Terrell is 100%.

Camereon W. from Snellville, Georgia

Do you think Bijan Robinson should be getting early-season MVP consideration right now? His performance against the Bills was eye-popping like something straight out of a video game. The Falcons don't win that game without him, and honestly, he's been playing at that level all season. What are your thoughts is it too early to put him in the MVP conversation, or is he truly emerging as that guy for Atlanta?

No. It is not too soon.

Robinson leads the NFL in total yards from scrimmage, with 822 yards this season. That is the fourth-most by a player in his team's first five games of a season in the Super Bowl era.

I saw a note fromSI's Garrett Chapman this weekthat stated "Robinson can move into the top-5 for the most scrimmage yards by a player in his team's first six games of a season in the Super Bowl era. If he hits his weekly average (164.4 YPG) on Sunday, he would move to third on this list. FWIW, Faulk, Holmes, and Murray all won the OPOY. Simpson finished runner-up."

If the Falcons continue to win, I'd imagine a lot of the offensive success they have will be because of Robinson. Atlanta has made it no secret at all that this offense works through Robinson.

"Our team goes through Bijan Robinson," Raheem Morris told Peter Schrager in the lead up to MNF.

Speaking of Schrager, he talked a lot about Robinson and a potential MVP nodon his podcast this week.

"I understand the MVP award now goes to quarterbacks. I get it," Schrager said. "... But having seen Bijan Robinson up close against the reigning MVP Josh Allen on a nationally televised game with all of those legends in the building and in a big moment for Atlanta Falcons football, to perform the way he did, I would be shocked if come November, December we're not talking about Bijan Robinson in the MVP conversation."

Mike S. from Calgary

I hate to ask, but almost think it needs to be asked... The Falcons don't have a lot of draft capital next year, and with pending contracts for Drake London and Bijan Robinson probably cannot afford to keep Tyler Allgeier who would be an improvement for most teams running back situation.

Is there any thought to trading him to a team desperate for better running back play? I truly think he will become what we had in Michael Turner, a sparely utilized backup due to the fact of who he was behind on the depth chart who goes to another city and turns into a Pro Bowler.

No. No thought. At all.

Tyler Allgeier helps you win games. I know Bijan Robinson is the hottest and best player in football right now, but Allgeier is vitally important to this operation, too. Make no mistake about it. You can re-coup draft capital in many different ways that does not involve sending Allgeier packing.

Ain't no way I am doing that. Ain't no way I think the Falcons are even considering that. I get the question, but no.
