UK urges restraint amid reports of U.S. Plans to strike Iran: local media

LONDON, June 19 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for restraint following reports that U.S. President Donald Trump has approved plans for a military strike against Iran, The Telegraph reported on Thursday.

"The continuation of the current situation is in no one's interest," said a Downing Street spokesperson, quoted by The Telegraph.

However, Downing Street declined to comment on whether the United Kingdom would authorize the use of its Diego Garcia military base, located in the Chagos Islands, for a potential U.S. offensive against Iran.

The developments come in the wake of a warning issued by the British Attorney General, who advised the Prime Minister on Thursday that the UK's involvement in a U.S.-led strike on Iran could be deemed unlawful.
