TEHRAN (Tasnim) Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through central London on Saturday, condemning US President Donald Trumps proposal to relocate Gazas population and redevelop the war-torn territory.
- World news -Waving Palestinian flags and carrying placards reading Hands off Gaza, the protesters walked from Whitehall in Westminster, crossing the River Thames to reach the US embassy in Nine Elms.
Earlier this month, Trump suggested that the United States could transform Gaza into the Riviera of the Middle East, proposing the resettlement of Palestinians elsewhere without any plan for their return. The idea has faced widespread condemnation from Western leaders and the Arab world.
Some protesters carried banners stating, Stand up to Trump and Mr. Trump, Canada is not your 51st state. Gaza is not your 52nd.
I think its completely immoral and illegal and also impractical and absurd, said Stephen Kapos, an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor. You simply cannot deport two million people, especially when neighboring countries have already said they wouldnt take themnot out of kindness, but because it would destabilize those countries. So its not going to happen, but just stating it as an endgame causes a lot of damage, he added.
The demonstration, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), marked the 24th major pro-Palestinian protest in London since October 2023 when Israel launched its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
A significant police presence was deployed to monitor the protest and prevent clashes with a counter-march titled Stop the Hate, where participants waved Israeli flags.
Israels military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 48,264 people, the majority civilians, according to Gazas health ministry.
On Saturday, Hamas released three Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian inmates freed by Israel, completing the latest round of prisoner swaps under a fragile Gaza truce deal.
