Winehouse to perform at Mandela bash
The London News.Net Wednesday 7th May, 2008 (IANS)
Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse has been invited to perform at former South African president Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday bash in London's Hyde Park.
Mirror.co.uk reports that Mandela personally called Winehouse and asked her to perform at the June 27 party.
An insider said: 'Winehouse was stunned when she got the call. She thought it was a hoax - well you would wouldn't you. But once she worked out it really was him, she accepted straightaway and gushed about how much she was looking forward to it. She couldn't believe it.'
Other musicians planning to attend the ceremony include Sir Elton John, Razorlight, Queen, Bono and Annie Lennox. The event will raise money for Mandela's Aids charity 46664. The number was his prison number.
Speaking of the party, a source said: 'It'll be explosive - one big party. Maybe Sir Elton John will duet with Winehouse like he did with Pete Doherty at Live 8. Whatever happens Winehouse is sure to be the highlight. Let's hope she bee-hives herself!'
