Meet the gran who's a black belt in karate!
The London News.Net Tuesday 10th April, 2007 (ANI)
London, April 10 : A 62 year old woman has put youngsters to shame by earning a black belt in Karate.
Mary Athay, who is a grandmother, was rewarded the top grade last week after five hours of hand-to-hand fighting.
"It's very hard work, and getting a black belt was a huge achievement," The Sun quoted Mary, as saying.
"My grandchildren think it's great fun to play-fight with me but my husband never chats back to me now," she added.
Mary, who is an accountant from Bristol, can smash two-inch blocks of wood and roof slates with her hands.
The 62-year-old grandmom joined the Dragon Tang Soo Do karate club in Bristol when she was 57.
"The average age in the club is about 25, so I got some strange looks. But I absolutely love it," she said.
After reaching the pinnacle in Karate, Mary now wants to learn Sword training.
